TRAINING MODES AVAILABLE ON THE SMART AIRWAY APP IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SMART AIRWAY ADULT:

  • Practice mode: This mode allows the user to familiarise themselves with the model or app and get real-time feedback on techniques such as incisor force, cricoid pressure, head position, jaw thrust, and BVM. Additionally, this allows the user to get visualisations of the lung volumes via bar graphs and pressure curves. This will give them feedback on ventilation rate and volume. The app can discern accurate adherence from inconsistencies in established best practices, creating transparent pathways for targeted refinement. Audio and text feedback once again aids in providing the feedback required to improve their techniques.
  • Self-directed training: Contains guided video tutorials on what each skill is, contradictions, background information, and audio and text feedback on the student’s performance. This allows students to build and improve their knowledge of procedures, put the knowledge learned in practice mode to the test with an objective self-directed training session. The student can customise what skill they would like to focus on. Quantitative feedback is then provided on how well the student performed with graded marks presented.
  • Instructor-led assessment: The instructor can modify scenarios and assessment criteria based on the user’s level of experience. Additionally, pre-theory knowledge questions for each topic or procedure are provided and marked accordingly. Debrief video and quantitative feedback is provided post assessment, and the instructor can provide additional feedback on how they can improve their technique. A certificate of completion and summary of results will be provided at the end of the assessment.

What type of lubrication can be used during intubation practice?

We recommend TruCorp’s lubrication for best practice, but alternatives can be used provided they are water-soluble lubricants. Please do not use silicone-based products as they will degrade the materials.

Does the Smart Airway Adult require assembly?

No, this training manikin is delivered ready to use so you can begin training straight away! Simply, power up the manikin and connect to the Smart Airway app. Generously spray the oral/nasal passages and equipment with the lubrication provided.

What equipment sizes are recommended?

• Size 6.0-7.0mm ID for nasal intubation
• Size 7.0-7.5mm ID for oral intubation
• Size 3 for LMA laryngeal masks
• Similar respective sizes for other supraglottic devices

Does the manikin provide user feedback to indicate successful or failed procedures?

Yes, if successfully intubated you will see a visible chest rise. If the student has failed to intubate, the app will highlight incorrect intubation i.e the tube has been inserted into the stomach.

Can I make intubation more difficult on the Smart Airway Adult manikin?

The tongue can be inflated to simulate tongue edema. Attach a syringe to the connector located on the base of the manikin and insert approx. 20ml of air.

My Smart Airway Adult manikin needs repairing. How can I arrange this?

Please contact us and provide the serial number (found on the manikin's endplate) and an image/video of the issue. If it meets the warranty conditions TruCorp will provide the required parts free of charge. If the warranty has expired, our sales team will provide a quote. The Smart Airway range must be returned to TruCorp for repair due to the complexity of the inner workings.

What warranty comes with the Smart Airway Adult?

The Smart Airway Adult manikin comes with a 1-year warranty. Warranty begins from date of delivery.

What can I use to clean the manikin?

Thoroughly wash the AirSim X airway in with warm water. Please use warm soapy water or similar until all visible foreign matter and residue is removed.

Mild detergents or enzymatic cleaning agents may be used on the airway at the proper dilution. The detergent must not contain skin or mucous membrane irritants.

Do not submerge the model into water, due to electronics this will damage the model and void warranty.

Please do not use any of the following when cleaning the AirSim product range:
Germicides, disinfectants or chemical agents such as glutaraldehyde (e.g. Cidex®)
Ethylene oxide, phenol-based cleaners or iodine-containing cleaners

In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, we recommend this additional step to ensure the product is fully sanitized:
Generously spray alcohol spray or gel (minimum 75% alcohol) and wipe off. Repeat 3-4 times to fully disinfect the product. This can be done on the silicone skin and the latex airway.
